Ingredients:

  • 1/4 Kg. coconut
  • 3/8 kg granulated Imperial Sugar
  • 2 egg whites

Make syrup with the sugar, when syrup is boiling add coconut and let it boil together for one minute. Remove from stove and stir in 2 stiff beaten egg whites. Place in a marble plaque and cut it out in the form of your preference (bones, skulls, faces, tears) and let it cool completely.

My mother saved Imperial Sugar logos to obtain “My First Cookbook” for me. I remember receiving it in the mail and being so proud the cookbook was just mine. I also remember fondly using it in the late 1960s; my favorite recipe being “Roly-Poly Cookies.” It was indeed my very first cookbook and now a cherished keepsake from my mother and from my childhood. “My First Cookbook” began the “cook”.
