JANUARY 2006

Happy New Year!

The holidays are over for another year and it's the time of the year when we are still working on all the New Year's resolutions we made. I've already given up on a couple, but doing well on a couple more. I don't know why I always say that I am going to give up on my beloved Dr Pepper, because I just can’t do it. I try, for about a day, and then I'm back to my normal routine. In doing some research into resolutions, it seems that the list never changes. Everyone wants to get into shape and get out of debt. I'm surprised those two are not 1 and 2 on the list! The top 10 New Year’s Resolutions include:

  1. Spend more time with family and friends
  2. Fit in fitness
  3. Tame the bulge
  4. Quit smoking
  5. Enjoy life more
  6. Quit drinking
  7. Get out of debt
  8. Learn something new
  9. Help others
  10. Get organized

And finally, it is football playoffs and I do hope your favorite team is still playing. My beloved Houston Texans didn't do so well this year, but I'm hopeful for next year.

Here’s to a great 2006!

Talk to you next month!

Trivia Question
Congratulations to our December Trivia winner:  Julie Lawrence has won a sugar gift package that includes brown sugar cups, granulated sugar and sugar shakers.  The question was how many recipes do we have under the heading holiday – Christmas and the answer was: 23.

This month’s trivia question is:
Per the Sugar Association, how is sugar a friend of the dieter?

Hint: Look in the Health & Nutrition section.

New Years brings on diets and football playoffs so I found a couple of recipes that fit into those two topics, as well as an arts and crafts project that will be a keepsake for years to come.

Since January marks the beginning of a new year, I thought it would be fun to make a yearbook with your kids and store special mementos that your child collects during 2006.

A Reader's Letter
I received a great email a while back that I want to share with you that shows how strong family memories can be. It also goes to show what can happen during your normal morning breakfast routine.

"My kids still tell the story (they are 38-37-36-35) when the kids were small and as usual a hectic morning trying to get all four ready for school and breakfast ready. Just trying to get all 4 to agree on what they wanted we decided cinnamon toast. Still the usual bickering between siblings, I was rushing around grabbed the butter out of the icebox, fixed the toast and served the kids. Well usually the kids gobbled up the toast but this time one was making a face and the others said it tasted funny. Being a young hectic mother (not wanting kids to be late for school) in my mother had enough voice!!!! I said "hurry up and eat we have to go!!!" My youngest kind of whined and said it tasted nasty! After eating their breakfast and after returning from taking all four to school I was cleaning the kitchen and noticed the tub of butter I made the cinnamon toast with, well I had grabbed the freshly made garlic butter I had made the night before with huge chunks of fresh garlic in it. I felt so bad. The kitchen even reeked with the smell of garlic and cinnamon! Garlic cinnamon toast."

Thank you Billie for a great story!

Now doesn' t that sound yummy? NOT! I think, though that we have all done something similar in our quest to get everything done that needs to get done. If you've got a funny story to tell, please email me at sweetalk@imperialsugar.com. I would love to share more of these stories with you.
