Sweetalk Newsletter from Imperial Sugar Company

OCTOBER 2006

Fall has arrived!

October is upon us and that means it’s time to gear up for Halloween.  It also signals the end of Daylight Savings Time, which will end October 29th.  Did you know that beginning in 2007 Daylight Savings time will be extended by 1 month and will begin at 2am on the second Sunday of March (March 11) and end at 2am on the first Sunday of November (November 4)?

As I mentioned in September, we have a new feature on the Imperial Sugar website – Current Holiday Ideas.  This page is designed to give you ideas for holidays.  The first holiday is Halloween.  It lists various Halloween recipes, arts and craft ideas, as well as some interesting Halloween trivia.  Did you know that the Irish used to carve turnips – not pumpkins?   I hope you will take a few minutes to look at the page and then let us know what you think.  There is a place on the page to give us your feedback, including your own holiday traditions and recipes.  Click here to go to the Halloween page.

I would like to thank Michele Bauer, who took the time to try all 4 of the recipes that were listed in the July and August newsletter and to give me her feedback.  Michele gave the Fruit Paradise 5 stars, Apple Cobbler 4 stars, Layered Dessert 3 stars and the Quick Chocolate Pie Crust made with Crumbs got 2 stars.  Michele, your prize package is on the way!

October is the start of the third year of Sweetalk.  It amazes me that this is my 25th newsletter that I have written.  I want to thank all of you who read the newsletter, forward to friends, play the trivia contests and provide feedback.  We started out with just 50 subscribers to the newsletter in October 2004 and we now have over 2,000 people per month that receive Sweetalk.

In this month’s edition of Sweetalk, I have made a minor change to the recipe selections.  Each month I will now feature a 5-star recipe, as well as a recipe that has been submitted by our consumers (most of which are also 5-star).  The arts and crafts idea for Halloween can also be used for Thanksgiving decorations.  In addition, Michelle has provided some great nutritional information when dining out.

Have a great month!

A NEW LOOK FOR SUGAR
How happy are you with your sugar's packaging?  Do you like the leaks and spills?  What about when your sugar becomes hard because the moisture can get into the paper bag?  None of us like this - so why should we just accept it?

That's why we have designed a new look for sugar!  Have you tried our new products yet? With the busy baking season coming up, I hope you take this opportunity to try our new convenient packages.

8-Cup Plastic Pouch - A sugar bag that doesn't leak!
Zips close! No leaks! Resealable Plastic Package! This new innovative pouch will help eliminate the mess that opening a bag of sugar causes you. Sugar is measured most often by the cup, not the pound, so it made sense to us to package it in an amount that's easy for you to use.

Brown Sugar Cups - Your brown sugar will not go hard!
Brown sugar cups are packed in a set of 3 individually sealed one-cup containers. Use an entire cup and still have the other two cups sealed.

Granulated, Superfine, Free-Flowing Brown, Powdered, Cinnamon Sugar and Turbinado Shakers
Sugar shakers that are more convenient and less messy.  Including  Granulated Shaker, perfect for sweetening your coffee, Superfine Shakers will make your tea sweet, Free-Flowing Brown Shakers are great to sprinkle on oatmeal, as well as sweeten your coffee or iced tea, Powdered Sugar Shakers are great for waffles and french toast, Cinnamon Sugar Shakers will add the perfect touch for toast and Turbinado Shakers, a new way to make that perfect cup of coffee. Our full line of shakers can be found on the sugar aisle.
