Tissue Paper Stained Glass Hearts
Tissue Paper Stained Glass Hearts

These beautiful tissue paper stained glass hearts are cheery and colorful, and the perfect Valentine's Day decoration or gift. String them together to make a garland for your mantel, or let the light shine through them by attaching them to your windows.
Making stained glass paper hearts is a great project for little hands that need practice with fine motor skills. Children can cut or tear lots of pieces of colorful tissue paper and glue them between a sheet of waxed paper.
When dry, you can see through it and view the beautiful shapes and arrangements that were made. For older children, they can make pictures inside of their glass, such as landscapes, flowers and shapes - anything is possible.

Supplies:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Imperial Sugar Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • Assorted colors of tissue paper
  • Wax paper
  • Paint brushes or sponges

Directions:

  1. Mix flour, sugar, water and oil in a pot and stir over low heat until well combined and smooth in texture to make decoupage.
  2. Cut or tear tissue paper into small pieces.
  3. Tape a large piece of waxed paper to your work surface.
  4. Brush glue on one half of the wax paper.
  5. Lay tissue paper over the glue, with pieces overlapping until the surface is covered.
  6. Carefully brush a thin layer of glue over the tissue paper.
  7. Fold the other half of the waxed paper over the tissue paper and flatten until smooth.
  8. Let dry completely.
  9. If desired, cut into shapes. Punch a hole, tie with string and hang from windows.
