You might be asking yourself “what is the difference between a pudding and a mousse”? Well, without going into the whole history of things (puddings were not originally a desert) a mousse is lighter and fluffier. This is because of the ingredients used to thicken each. Puddings are often thickened with some type of binder such as flour, cornstarch, or gelatin. A mousse is thicken with egg yolks and whipped egg whites (meringue) or whipped cream folded in. Before instant puddings became available pudding needed to be baked while a (sweet) mousse is chilled. And we cannot forget about bread puddings which are thickened with eggs and bread and need to be baked.

And how about that not so distant cousin the soufflé, what makes it different from the others?  While both a mousse and a soufflé often have aerated eggs, a soufflé is cooked while a mousse is chilled. Also a soufflé has flour it and the mouse does not. And when compared to a pudding there is no aerating of eggs in the pudding.
