10 Pumpkin Recipes for the Fall Season
When the weather begins to cool, pumpkin recipes are top of mind. After they’ve plumped up all summer, it’s time to incorporate this nourishing gourd into just about any baked good you can.
Pumpkin is great on its own, delicious as a filling, and perfect for batters. Not only does it add moisture, but it adds a density that can’t be beat. And it’s not just the pumpkin alone that gets us drooling: it’s the spices that go with it. Who doesn’t love cinnamon, allspice, ginger, nutmeg and cloves wafting through the house in the fall?
Did you know that pumpkin is also very useful in substitutions? You can use 1/4 can of pumpkin puree in place of an egg in most baking recipes. You can also use pumpkin to reduce fat in your baking recipes - pureed pumpkin can replace half the butter amount required. Similarly, 1/4 cup of pumpkin can replace 1/4 cup of oil in your cooking.
Important Tip: When you’re baking with pumpkin, make sure you follow the recipe’s request exactly. Canned pumpkin, pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie filling are not interchangeable. Canned pumpkin and pumpkin puree are just plain old pumpkin. Pumpkin pie filling, though, has sweeteners and spices added.
