Lemon Sugar Soap

Lemons are rich in vitamin C and citric acid, so they can help brighten and lighten your skin when used over time. Vitamin C is a great antioxidant for neutralizing free radicals and boosting collagen production. Lemon essential oil also boasts antiseptic properties.

Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties, meaning it gently soothes red, irritated skin. It also contains many fatty acids that promote healing. Shea butter deeply penetrates and moisturizes the skin without leaving a greasy residue.

Turbinado, or raw sugar, acts as a natural exfoliator, gently smoothing away dead skin to uncover new skin underneath. Lemon peel adds additional exfoliating properties.

Our Homemade Lemon Sugar Soap recipe combines these three natural powerhouses. With a bright and uplifting scent, Homemade Lemon Sugar Soap cleanses, clarifies and purifies the skin.

Depending on the size of your soap molds, this Homemade Lemon Sugar Soap recipe should produce 2 – 3 bars.

Ingredients

1 cup shea butter melt and pour soap (non-suspension formula)
1 tablespoon lemon peel
1 tablespoon Imperial Sugar Turbinado
2 drops lemon essential oil
Soap molds (silicon molds release best)

Directions

Cut melt-and-pour soap into cubes and place in glass measuring cup.
Place in microwave on high for 40 seconds. Stir and repeat for 10 second intervals until completely melted.
Let cool slightly for about one minute.
Stir in lemon peel and turbinado. (The larger sugar crystals will not dissolve.)
Carefully pour soap mixture into molds, filling to top of mold.
If bubbles appear on top of soap, gently spritz with alcohol to pop them.
Let soap sit in a stable location for at least 4 hours. To extract soap from molds, gently push on the bottom of the mold until soap is released.

Notes:

Shea butter soaps need to breathe, so leave unwrapped or wrap with breathable paper. (They can also be stored in brown paper bags.) Prior to use, store in a cool, dry location away from heat and humidity.
If you want a stronger lemon smell, additional drops of lemon essential oil can be added.
