Popping with sweet and then spicy flavors, Fruity BBQ Baked Beans is sure to be the star of your next cookout. Take an ordinary can of baked beans, stir in tart granny smith apple chunks and golden raisins then add your favorite BBQ sauce and what you end up with is a delicious and unexpected baked bean dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (28 ounces) baked beans
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 granny smith apple (peeled, cored and diced)
  • 1/3 cup Imperial Sugar Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
  • 1/3 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/3 cup golden raisins
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3 strips of bacon
  • Pinch salt

      Directions

      1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
      2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium high heat and saute onion and apple for about 3 minutes.
      3. Remove from heat and stir in raisins, cumin, BBQ sauce, sugar and salt. Stir until completely blended.
      4. Pour into a 2-quart casserole dish and top with bacon. Bake for 50 minutes.
