Description
Make a fun Thanksgiving centerpiece with items you probably already have lying around the house. Display a colorful bounty of sweet hands on your Thanksgiving table. Have children trace and cut out their hands on colorful paper. Use a paper plate to make a swirled cornucopia.
Little ones will love to help paint the paper plates and create the handprint “fruit” to add to the inside of the cornucopia. While creating this craft, you can talk to children about the history of the cornucopia and how it symbolizes bounty and all we are thankful for during the holiday season.
Ingredients
- Sugar Paste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons Imperial Sugar Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 cup boiling water
Supplies
- 5 paper plates
- Dark and light brown paint
- Paint brushes
- Sugar paste
- Colored cardstock
- Pencil
- Scissors
Directions
- Paint the paper plates using the light brown and dark brown paint. You’ll glue them together in alternating colors, so three will be dark brown and two will be light brown.
- Make the sugar paste: In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar and cup of cold water. Add boiling water. Stir to combine and let come to room temperature.
- Trace your child’s hands onto the colored cardstock. Cut out the handprints.
- Cut one of the dark brown plates into the shape of a horn for the end of the cornucopia.
- Use the sugar paste to glue the plates together in alternating colors.
- Glue the handprints onto the top plate in colored layers using the sugar glue.
