Cherry Almond Bars

    *Spoon & Sweep method: Use a spoon to fill measuring cup with flour until required amount is obtained. Scooping measuring cup directly into flour bag will firmly pack flour resulting in too much flour required for recipe.

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9x13-inch pan thoroughly with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
    2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating well on medium speed until combined. Beat in vanilla and almond extract. With the mixer on medium-low, slowly add flour, beating until combined.
    3. Spread 2/3 of batter into prepared pan. Spread cherry pie filling evenly over batter, then dallop remaining dough randomly over filling. Bake for 35 minutes or until bars are golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool completely on a cooling rack.
    4. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, almond extract, and water. Drizzle over bars and immediately sprinkle with sliced almonds.
