Our Heritage

Sweet things happen when families are together in the kitchen. That's why for generations,

Texas families have baked with love and Imperial Sugar. When it comes to treasured family traditions, Imperial Sugar tastes like home.

From Sugar Land to the World

In 1843, along the banks of Oyster Creek in what would later become Sugar Land, the Williams brothers built a sugar mill, began grinding sugar cane, and a Texas legacy was born. The Imperial Sugar Company is the one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the State of Texas.

In 1905 the Kempner family of Galveston, Texas, under the leadership of Isaac H. Kempner and in his partnership with William T. Eldridge, purchased the Imperial Mill and incorporated the Imperial Sugar Company.

Both then and now, millions of households across Texas and the Southeast embrace the Imperial Sugar brand and the qualities it stands for: consistent baking performance, the highest quality, and a legacy of being the only brand of sugar that makes Grandma's recipes right.

From the beginning, Imperial Sugar has been a trusted name in family kitchens all across Texas. That’s why Imperial Sugar has been at the heart of family traditions and celebrations for generations. We’re the secret ingredient in family-favorite recipes handed down from one generation to another. Home cooks know that when you bake with love and Imperial Sugar, that’s when memories are made.
